Очередная встреча участников нашего Разговорного Английского Клуба в марте была посвящена миру кинематографа, безграничной вселенной, в которой у каждого свои жанровые предпочтения, любимые фильмы, режиссеры, актеры, треки… Тема, на которую можно говорить часами. Тема, которая часто затрагивается в заданиях не только государственных экзаменов по английскому языку, но и международных. Кроме привычных вопросов из разряда small talk, надо быть готовым ответить: каким фильмам отдают предпочтение современные подростки; предпочитаешь ли ты смотреть фильмы в кинотеатре или в домашней обстановке и почему; какой фильм ты посмотрел недавно, и о чем он. Без предварительной подготовки дать четкие и грамотные ответы на иностранном языке крайне сложно. Но не в нашем Клубе.

Our session started with a complicated task. First of all, the participants had to make a list of 5 famous or favourite foreign films keeping this information in secret. Then without mentioning the name of the film we had to speak about it in groups. The genre, the plot, the cast, the quotes, even gestures could be given and used to achieve the main goal – the other members had to guess the film. It was extremely difficult! But we spoke English and did our best to make the fellow club members name the film title. The winner got the prize – to be in the centre of the group photo. )))

Then we watched fragments of some films that are really significant in the cinema. We began with “The Matrix” which is considered to be “one of the most influential films of the past twenty-seven years”. It is a science fiction, thrilling action and adventure film with absolutely stunning special effects and a fantastic soundtrack.

Fedor offered to see some film clips and asked tricky questions (as usual, tricky and thought-provoking).

We discussed the pros and cons of “old” and “modern” films, the participants shared their opinions about musicals. Our host gave us interesting information about some world-renowned directors: Quentin Tarantino, Christopher Nolan, Ridley Scott, Michael Bay.

At the end of the session all the members of the Club had the feeling that any sphere of our life kept so many unknown and amazing facts… and cinema is not the exception.
